Our specialist translation agency is supporting Malta’s talented young female handball players by funding the Phoenix Handball Club U-17 team, to encourage more young women to take part in the sport.
Sport plays an important role in the social development of children and young people. It builds a sense of belonging, solidarity, collaboration and self-confidence. By supporting a young women’s team in a male-dominated sport like handball, we are helping to dismantle the stereotypes that segregate sports into those played by men and those played by women.
By using sport to overcome gender divisions and pave the way for greater social equality and equity, we hope to make a small contribution to achieving a more open society – because what we learn as children has an impact throughout our adult lives.
Pedra Rolada is an underprivileged neighbourhood in Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde, and is characterised by high levels of poverty, academic failure, crime and street violence.
Espaço Jovem was set up to create a more united and engaged community through sports like football, and to provide academic support to young people to help them succeed at school and achieve higher levels of education, such as the baccalaureate.
Atlético Pedra Rolada, the club supported by Espaço Jovem, has several teams at various age levels that play in the island’s regional league. They are currently working on establishing a girls’ division.
Traducendo Ltd helps to fund the purchase of school supplies and books for children in need. We are also committed, through this initiative, to providing sports equipment to young people who can’t afford it. Because we believe that all children should have what they need to play sport and have fun.
Moreover, we believe so strongly in the power of sport to improve social inclusion that we also decided to establish a dedicated fund for children who want to play sport but, sadly, don’t have the opportunity to do so.
